During the October half term break, our Gifted and Talented Year 5 writers spent a weekend with Adam Bushnell, a well-known author and storyteller.
Adam took us round Whitby, the fantastic Abbey, and to Robin Hoods Bay where he inspired the children with his amazing stories. They really experienced the forces of nature as they experienced the snow over the moors, the rain at the Abbey, and the wind blowing the sand in their faces on the beach.
The children returned to their accommodation where they wrote their own stories, chapter by chapter, with Adams help and assistance. They tried on suits of armour, tried their hand at archery (including sending a few arrows deep into the woods for Mr Loomes to retrieve!), painted pictures and built imaginary buildings with Lego. This gave the children loads of wonderful ideas to write about, and really helped developed their language.
They wrote some great stories and painted some wonderful pictures of Whitby Abbey and their mythical scenes.
