Enhanced Mainstream Provision
The EMP has 9 funded places by the local Authority. EMP places are funded by the LA and therefore they determine placement. The process begins with a referral to the Communication and Interaction team, by a child;s “home” school. They discuss the referral and determine whether an EMP place would meet the child’s needs.
The Current Situation
The Local Authority funds these places at £10,000 per pupil. As a school we have a budget of £100,000 for 10 places to maintain the EMP – The Learning Zone.
The expectation from the start has been that these children will access literacy and numeracy in their mainstream class with the required level of support, which is determined against their individual needs. The afternoon sessions are timetabled to work towards their special educational needs relating to the social communication difficulties.
We have three members of staff attached to the Enhanced Mainstream Provision.
Gemma Smith – HLTA – Full Time
Liam Jones- LSA – Full Time
Sarah Phillips – LSA – Part Time – 3 days Tuesday – Thursday
Rebecca Griffiths – LSA – Full Time
Terri-Louise Barrass – LSA – Full Time
The Local Authority monitor the EMP annually. A report is submitted alongside the visit.
Mr Dickinson, our GLC manager, complements the EMP team. He advises and supports with the behaviour management of the children. The GLC is being used as part of the behaviour system for the EMP children in the same way as it is used as part of our whole school behaviour policy.
Laura Smith, Assistant Deputy Head Teacher, meets with the Learning Zone staff weekly to monitor children’s progress, staffing arrangements and as and when matters arise. Ms Smith is also responsible for the statutory arrangements relating to the children’s special educational needs.
