At Easington Colliery Primary School we recognise the importance of assessment (both summative and formative) and how it can be used to develop children’s learning.
Up until recently children were assessed using National curriculum levels however this is now not the case. The government have brought in an assessment system whereby children are assessed against age related expectations rather than levels.
In our school children are assessed against the National Expectations for their year group.
Three grades are used in school for the children and when reporting to parents
Gold: exceeding year group expectations
Silver: achieving year group expectations
Bronze: emerging towards year group expectations (or pre-emerging: working at a lower year group’s objectives)
The school uses a series of assessments provided by PATTS and also by Focus Education along with Local Authority Stranded sheets to support teacher judgements.
